‘Heir to Ardizzone, Bawden and Ravilious’ – Alan Bennett
Artist, typographer, designer, critic, children’s author and amateur botanist, Peter Campbell was an integral part of the London Review of Books from its beginning in September 1979 until his death in 2011. He designed its first issue and kept a close watch on all subsequent ones; and for nearly twenty years every picture on the cover of the LRB was his. Artwork is a collection of his cover illustrations, book designs, paintings and drawings, first published in 2012, with introductory essays by Jeremy Harding and Bill Manhire.
